Dwayne Bowe Reportedly Not Set To Sign Franchise Tender Despite Rumors To Contrary

It did not take long at all for one rumor to dispel another. So goes the NFL media right before the 2012 NFL Draft, where one smokescreen is sent to disguise another and it’s hard to tell the truth from a lie. Just a bit after one rumor said that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was possibly set to sign his franchise tender, another is out to undermine it saying it is not so, from NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora. He writes:

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Dwayne Bowe has no plans to sign his franchise tag soon, a source with knowledge of the situation said Thursday, contrary to an Internet report. Bowe, like other franchise players who have yet to sign their tags, is hoping to get a long-term deal, but nothing is imminent. The NFL’s deadline for franchised players to agree to a long-term contract is July 15.

Mike Florio reported the opposite on Pro Football Talk this morning, and for a little while, there was some talk that the Chiefs could focus on one of the draft’s top receivers in the first round tonight. It’s hard to tell fact from fiction at this point, but it’s more believable that Bowe will be in KC next season and that he will sign the tender at a later date. Then again, anything is possible.
