NFL Mock Draft 2012: Mike Mayock Has Mark Barron To Chiefs For 'Best Safety Combo In League'

Eric Berry is already one of the best young safeties in the National Football League and the Chiefs defensive back actually missed all of last season. Yet his rookie year left enough of an impression that everyone is still well aware who he is. Well if the Chiefs add another high-impact safety, the back end of the Chiefs defense will be like no one else in the NFL. That's what Mike Mayock believes when he has Mark Barron of Alabama headed to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2012 NFL Draft's first round in his mock.

Mayock writes, "Let me preface this by saying GM Scott Pioli is risk-averse. You could look at Dontari Poe here, but there's so much "boom or bust" in him. Barron is one of the safest picks in the draft. Pair him with Eric Berry and you've got the best safety combo in the league."

Kendrick Lewis would then presumably move to nickel safety, which would still see plenty of action on the field and would round out the depth in the Chiefs secondary as well, which is a concern at this point in the offseason. Mayock has the Buffalo Bills landing Luke Kuechly immediately before the Chiefs select.
