It’s never too early to think about the 2013 NFL Draft, is it? Well maybe it is if the 2012 version hasn’t even taken place. But since Charlie Campbell over at WalterFootball.com has taken the time to create a 2013 mock, we might as well take a look at what the Chiefs are up to. Given that he has the Chiefs grabbing Dontari Poe at defensive tackle in the first round this year, he has the Chiefs grabbing an offensive lineman in 2013.
Campbell writes, “The Chiefs did a great job plugging their hole at right tackle, but they still need to find help on the interior of their offensive front. Either a guard or a center is needed, and Barrett Jones can play both.”
Jones is the pick from Alabama, and a high impact lineman from a top flight SEC school is certainly going to be a solid pick. Perhaps the better news is that the Chiefs are selecting from the No. 21 position — 10 choices better than this year. Unfortunately the Broncos have an even later pick which infers they win the AFC West. That’s what happens when a team secures Peyton Manning.
Jones has already started at guard for two years and left tackle for one, winning the Outland Trophy in the process. Now the talk is that he could be the center for ‘Bama in 2012. If that’s the case, he will likely go much higher than the Chiefs pick at 21 for such a jack of all trades.
