Despite the Madden Curse, most NFL players would love the honor of being the face of a video game cover — a sign of their fame and success in the sport they work so hard in. Yet even though Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe lost in the first round of the Madden ‘13 cover vote earlier this spring to Calvin Johnson, he says that the results didn’t really bother him and even gave a nod to the legendary video game legend.
"I don’t want to say that I believe in the Madden Curse, but I’ll just say that I’m okay with being pulled out of the voting," Bowe said. "Once you see the voting start to happen, you kind of take a mental precaution."
Bowe had 81 catches for 1,159 yards and 5 touchdowns last season for the Chiefs, giving the team another stellar year of production. Yet it’s hard to knock out a guy who goes by Megatron and has a league-wide reputation as being the best wideout in the game. The Chiefs are also likely glad to know that there’s no black cats or dark clouds hanging around their best receiver.
