Des Moines isn't exactly known as a haven for crime, but random events happen everywhere and Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Rob Bruggeman was allegedly assaulted on Sunday morning in the early morning hours. Luckily for Bruggeman, officers saw the event take place when the suspect, Erwin Arturo Castro-Cortez, push and punch the lineman unprovoked.
Regina Zilbermints writes, "Officers said they saw Castro-Cortez shove Bruggeman. When Bruggeman turned around, Castro-Cortez allegedly punched him in the face. Police who saw the incident said the attack was unprovoked. Bruggeman had a cut to his upper lip and complained of pain around his nose and mouth. He refused medical attention."
Bruggeman is a former Iowa Hawkeye and spent the last couple of seasons with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. He is a long shot to make the Chiefs roster out of camp, but if there's a spot on the team where a player can earn a surprise slot, it could be along the offensive line.
