Chiefs Called 'Legitimate Super Bowl Contenders' By Sports Illustrated

The Kansas City Chiefs are a polarizing team to analyze for their potential success in 2012. John Clayton of ESPN recently said they will be a third place team in the AFC West and go 7-9. Now Tom Mantzouranis of Sports Illustrated has them as a potential Super Bowl contender. It's clear that no one knows what to do with the obvious core of talent mixed with Matt Cassel at quarterback and injuries all around.

In his recent breakdown of the Chiefs offseason, Mantzouranis admits some of the questions but ends up loving what Scott Pioli has put together in KC.

"This is a very talented team, there's no doubt about that," writes Mantzouranis. "That talent alone should get it to the playoffs easily, even in an AFC West that has a reloading Chargers and a Peyton Manning-led Broncos team. But how far the Chiefs go in the postseason is up to Cassel and Crennel. Both are good enough to not get in the way. But can they be even better? If so, I dare say that the Chiefs have a chance to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders."
