Everyone has those people in their lives whom they don't see for an extended period of time. Maybe it's distance apart from each other, busy work schedules or just life being, well, life. You go a long time without seeing them and when you do finally make time to see each other or run into one another at a random time, you notice something about them that's different. It could be small or it could be big, doesn't really matter but you can tell there's been a change.
The interesting thing is that you probably don't notice that change if you see the person every day. It's like the people who go on television and lose hundreds of pounds over the course of a few months. The people in their day-to-day lives during that transformation don't necessarily notice the overall change without seeing a picture from before. The people that decide to just get into shape don't see an immediate change and their husband or wife might not really notice a change either. But it's the people that you don't see for a while that tend to notice the things that you've done during this transformation.
The same things can be said about dedicated sports fans and specifically, Kansas City Chiefs fans. The fans following the day-to-day movements might not get to appreciate how far the team has come until they run into someone that doesn't follow the teams as closely. They can provide a different viewpoint of where they saw the team when they last paid attention.
The Kansas City Chiefs rise to relevance has been nothing short of spectacular for those able to step back and see where this team was just a few years ago when Scott Pioli took over as General Manager. Sure, they didn't win the Super Bowl last year or anything, but they've entered the discussion as a team worth discussing. That wasn't the case a few years ago.
Some fans just seem to be too close to their favorite team and don't get to appreciate the big picture view of how their team is coming along. But don't tell any of these fans that because they'll tell you the view they have in following each and every detail gives them a special appreciation of this journey that anyone not following as closely couldn't possibly tell you. It's the two ends of the spectrum and each has their own positives and negatives.
For all of those fans that get caught up in the day-to-day details of the Kansas City Chiefs, don't forget to step back every once in a while and appreciate how your narrative has changed. Things are looking up and that shouldn't be forgotten, even for a day.
