Romeo Crennel Addresses Kyle McCarthy Injury, Edgar Jones Signing At Chiefs Training Camp

Romeo Crennel took a few minutes out today, as he does every day of training camp, with a few words for the media to address the latest roster moves. The Chiefs made their first significant moves since camp started with the announcement that defensive back Kyle McCarthy was going to be lost for the season due to a knee injury, and that the team also announced the signing of Edgar Jones, formerly a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens.

As for McCarthy, the injury was believed to be serious when he went down and Crennel confirmed the sentiment.

"The day before yesterday, unfortunately, Kyle McCarthy had the knee [injury]. I mentioned to you that it didn't look good and it's not good," said Crennel. "He's going to have to have surgery on it. We waived him because of the youth, where he is in the CBA. We had to waive him injured, which means that he'll come back to us on I.R., which opens up a spot. We filled that spot with a linebacker, Edgar Jones, who played at Baltimore before and I think he went to school at Southeast Missouri."

When it comes to Jones' addition, Crennel said it was a matter of feeling like there weren't enough bodies at camp at his position. It's clear that the Chiefs are well-stocked in the secondary even with the loss of McCarthy, so the open roster spot allowed the team to move on to another position.

"I think he can help us at the linebacker spot and help us in special teams as well," Crennel said of Jones. "He's trying to get his feet on the ground and learn his way around the campus and learn his way around the playbook. We've already started that process."
