Derrick Johnson Expected To Play Against Falcons, According To Romeo Crennel

Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson should be ready for the season opener, according to Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel. Johnson injured his ankle in Kansas City's fourth and final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

The eight-year veteran out of Texas had his best season last year, recording a career-high 131 tackles. He has only missed six games in his career.

Reserve quarterback Brady Quinn, who is in a tight race with fifth-rounder Ricky Stanzi for the backup position, also sustained minor injuries against Green Bay. Both QBs were retained on the Chiefs' 53-man roster on Friday.

Kansas City will open their season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 9 at 12 p.m. CST.
