NFL Power Rankings: Kansas City Chiefs Open Season At No. 23

With the start of the season only a few days away, SB Nation has updated its preseason NFL Power Rankings. The Kansas City Chiefs come in at No. 23.

The Chiefs have a tough one to open the year when they play host to the Atlanta Falcons (No. 13 in the rankings) at noon Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

The rushing game could be key for the Chiefs under new head coach Romeo Crennel if the team hopes to compete in the AFC West. Jamaal Charles returns after missing all but one full game in 2011 and the team added former Cleveland Browns' bruiser Peyton Hillis to ease some of Charles' load. As NFL Editor Joel Thorman says in the rankings, "This has the look of a team who leads the league in rushing."

The Chiefs moved down two spots from No. 21 in the pre-training camp rankings, which was down two spots from the 19 spot in the post-draft rankings. A win over Atlanta would surely vault Kansas City in the rankings.
