In the latest SB Nation NFL mock draft by Matthew Fairburn, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Texas A&M Aggies left tackle Luke Joeckel with the No. 1 overall pick.
Joeckel makes all the sense in the world for the Chiefs. After cutting right tackle Eric Winston earlier in the offseason, Kansas City needs to fill the void. It also has to be considered that left tackle Branden Albert is on the franchise tag and has been the source of trade rumors for quite some time.
If Albert is dealt, Joeckel immediately steps in as the starting left tackle. Should Albert stay on the tag or be signed to a long-term deal by general manager John Dorsey, then Joeckel would start on the right side with Donald Stephenson backing him up.
It's tough to see the Chiefs going with any other position at this point. With quarterback Alex Smith traded for and corners Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson brought in via free agency, Kansas City doesn't have any other glaring needs sans inside linebacker.
