Royals Pick Up $6 Million David DeJesus Option Before Oct. 15 Deadline

The Kansas City Royals had until Oct. 15 to determine whether they were going to pick up David DeJesus' option.

It calls for $6 million after DeJesus made $4.6 million last year.

On Saturday, the Royals announced they had indeed picked it up.

The only strange part about it all is the timing since the Royals had several weeks to make a decision.

This is no surprise. This is what everyone thought would happen. Now, there are also some people who say the Royals will then flip DeJesus in the final year of his deal.

GM Dayton Moore said before the last MLB trade deadline that he would be aggressive with players in the final year of their contracts so that's something to keep in mind moving forward.

DeJesus was on pace for a career-year last year before being shut down for the season after a thumb injury.
