Another power hitter who could be ready to sign soon is Josh Willingham and if Jim Bowden is correct, there's a good chance he joins the AL Central. The Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners are the primary teams vying for Willingham's bat at this point and he would add considerable punch to both line-ups. Last year, Willingham had a career high 29 home runs, even though he also had a career low batting average (.246).
Mike Axisa says he brings a bit of versatility as well to whoever he signs with. "The right-handed hitter tallied 829 1/3 innings in left field, and also has experience in right field in 2009. First base and designated hitter could be options as well. Willingham's agent Matt Sosnick guessed in October that his client would sign a three-year deal."
The Twins are among the teams on the backburner at this point, so he might join the Central either way. That means that Royals pitchers will have another heart of the order bat to worry about when facing the Indians or Twins.
