The Detroit Tigers are seriously looking at several options for their third base woes, checking in on free agent Aramis Ramirez and now they've reportedly spoken with the San Diego Padres about Chase Headley, according to Fox Sports Jon Morosi. He does report that there's no significant momentum to speak of here.
Zach Links over at MLB Trade Rumors writes, "The 27-year-old projects to earn $3MM through arbitration this winter and it will be his second time through the process as a Super Two. The Padres are asking for a lot to part with Headley and the lack of depth in the free agent market for third basemen makes him a hot commodity."
Headley has definitely failed to live up to the prospect hype given to him upon his MLB arrival, but it's also true that Petco Park has spoiled his bat given its spacious dimensions and ability to make any pitcher look like Cy Young. Last season, Headley hit .289 with 4 home runs and 44 RBI.
