The Kansas City Royals farm system is loaded, but now they have to compete among each other for the various minor league awards that the Royals team hands out after the year is over. Some familiar names are on the list that Royals fans should know already while some others reveal some hidden gems that might have gone unnoticed.
Johnny Giavotella received the George Brett Hitter of the Year Award for his incredible year in the minors, while Kelvin Herrera earned the Paul Splittorff Pitcher of the Year Award. Giavotella had a 338 average and led the minor leagues in hits with 153 for Triple-A Omaha. Herrera had an incredible year in relief work with a 1.60 ERA and 14 saves between three levels.
Lorenzo Cain, the team's centerfielder of the future and the reason they traded away Melky Cabrera to the Giants, won the Frank White Defensive Player of the Year Award, while Anthony Seratelli won the Willie Wilson Baserunner of the Year Award for his 35 steals for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
