Well now that the Major League Baseball Draft is over, the Royals have begun the process of working on contracts to bring the young players into the fold with the organization. Kansas City has been quite busy, signing 21 draft choices so far over the past few days, in addition to six undrafted prospects.
Thus far, the highest draft pick signed is seventh round selection, pitcher Kellen Moen from the University of Oregon. The full list of players who have signed on the dotted line can be found here and here.
In addition to the players who were drafted, the Royals have also signed the following-
Nick DelGuidice - SS Florida Atlantic
Brian Gaylord - 1B Lewis and Clark State
Tyler Smith - C Arkansas State
Cody Fassold - RHP Lewis and Clark State
Nathan Johnson - RHP Whitworth University
Andrew Stueve - RHP Cal State-Stanislaus
Kansas City had drafted Smith's college teammate, pitcher Andrew Ferguson in the 18th round last Tuesday. Ferguson is one of the prospects who has since signed.
Interesting that the Royals also pulled two teammates from Lewis and Clark State College in Idaho. In 2008, the Royals drafted LHP Blaine Hardy from Lewis and Clark in the 22nd round. Hardy has struggled at AAA Omaha, but has been quite the find for the Royals coming into this season.
