Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket.

Those words were coined by the dreamer Mikey Walsh in one of my favorite all-time movies, "The Goonies". The reason for the clip is the Kansas City Royals on Monday announced the team slogan for 2012 would be "Our Time". And though Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star was the one who first mentioned the correlation between the slogan and the film clip, it was immediately the first thing I thought of when I heard the new slogan.

Though the intentions of the organization was not likely to draw a comparison to a favorite movie of my youth, it fits. Kansas City did great with this. With the All-Star Game, and a young up and coming team, we are all in the midst of "Our Time".

For a baseball city that has often been overlooked because of the product on the field and the fact that Kansas City is located in what is too often referred to as "Flyover Country", this is our chance to shine. And 2012 is just the beginning chapter, as the Royals have a young core that will be intact for the near future.

For many kids who grew up in the 80's, The Goonies was a magical movie that allowed your imagination to go beyond the limits of the neighborhood you grew up in, and I believe most Royals fans are starting to feel the same way about this ballclub that we currently have. Our dreams as fans may not be realized this year, but many have the feeling that we are beginning to reside in "Our Time".

It would be smart for the Royals to embrace the correlation between the slogan and the film clip. I know it could be worked into a rally starter when the team faces adversity late in a game. It matches too perfectly. And for that reason, I invite all of you to join me in referring to the newest version of our Royals as "The Goonies". A team that may be young, but will take you on an adventure all season long, while never giving up their dreams.

Let's just hope this season doesn't end with the Royals riding up Troy's bucket.
