Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer appears to have played his last game in 2012 after suffering a slight tear in his rotator cuff last Thursday. The Royals are wrapping up the season with two games left against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Hosmer hasn't played since Thursday and isn't likely to see action in the final two games. After being re-examined on Monday, Hosmer said he's not at 100 percent:
"I saw the doctor and he pretty much confirmed the strain and stuff," he said. "He likes how it's rehabbing but the strength is still not 100 percent there. So he's saying it's just a matter of day to day and just try to get it as strong as possible."
It's the end to a pretty disappointing sophomore season for the Royals' first baseman. He's hit just .232/.304/.359 with 14 homers and 60 RBIs. Hosmer showed more of his promise in his rookie season in 2011, when he hit .293 with 19 HRs and 78 RBIs in just 128 games.
