Kansas City Royals sign 3 to minor league contracts

The Royals signed three MiLB veterans, two of which have played in the big leagues, to minor league deals on Friday.

The Kansas City Royals have signed catcher Manuel Pina, first baseman Ian Gac and outfielder Luis Durango to minor league deals, the team announced on Friday (via the Topeka Captial-Journal).

Pina has 17 plate appearances with the Royals over the past two seasons, hitting .188/.235/.313 with two doubles and a walk in a small major league sample. In parts of eight minor league seasons, Pina owns a .252/.326/.363 line.

Durango played in 39 games for the San Diego Padres from 2009 to 2011, hitting .292 with no extra-base hits in 74 plate appearances. He spent the 2012 season playing for Gwinnett, the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A affiliate, hitting .289/.352/.335.

Gac is a 10-year minor league veteran, making his first appearance above A-ball in 2012 with Braves' Double-A affiliate Mississippi. He hit .247/.339/.443 with seven homers and 27 doubles. In 2011, Gac homered 33 times for the Advanced-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
