Lorenzo Cain Injury Update: Royals Outfielder Could Return Thursday

The Kansas City Royals could use a boost of any kind at this point. The 2012 season just hasn't gone the way anyone expected in this All-Star year, and injuries are starting to overwhelm the roster. Greg Holland just went down this weekend after the team has already lost Joakim Soria, Salvy Perez and Lorenzo Cain to injury. The good news is that Cain is on the way back and could return sometime in the next week -- potentially by Thursday.

Cain was supposed to enjoy a breakout season in 2012 as the Royals traded away former center fielder Melky Cabrera in exchange for starting pitcher Jon Sanchez. Cain is a dynamic defensive presence in center and the Royals hope he will man the position for years to come. A groin injury ruined the month of April, however, and he's been on the DL since April 10.

Cain is now on his rehab with Northwest Arkansas and will continue there the next few games.
