Eric Hosmer, Billy Butler Power Royals To Series Win Over Angels

The talk around the Kansas City Royals mostly focuses on the future, but apparently that future is now after a 7-3 win Sunday over the Los Angeles Angels. The Royals have to be thrilled with the outcome of their season opening series against the Angels, one in which their starting pitching performed admirably and they took two of three from the preseason American League favorite.

The Angels added Albert Pujols this offseason along with former Rangers starter C.J. Wilson in two big-ticket moves that were expected to keep the Angels atop the AL West and take them deep into the playoffs. That might be true, but for now, the Royals have to feel good about their own chances early in the season.

In game three, Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler homered to provide the bulk of the Royals offense. Hosmer finished 2 for 5 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Chris Getz also drove in a run, going for 2 for 4 at the plate. Jonathan Sanchez won his debut with the Royals, going five innings and allowing two earned runs. Jon Broxton struck out the side in the ninth for his first save.

The Royals now move on to a series with the Oakland Athletics as they continue their run against the AL West.
