Royals Vs. Tigers: Luke Hochevar Blasted in 9-3 Loss

Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar gave up nine runs over four innings as the Royals lost the first game of a rain-shortened series 9-3 on Tuesday night in Detroit.

After Monday's game was rained out and postponed for later in the season, Hochevar got another day of rest. The Tigers went with a different plan, skipping Monday's starter, Duane Below, and going with Rick Porcello. Detroit seemed to make the right decision, as Porcello gave up three earned runs on seven hits over eight innings.

Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-4 with one of the strangest doubles you'll see. In the top of the ninth, a fly ball to left center field bounced off the yellow padding on the top of the wall and Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson grabbed it. The umpires eventually ruled the hit a ground-rule double, although it didn't appear anyone was certain what the rule was. But at that point in the game, it didn't matter.

Jarrod Dyson went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Alex Gordon went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
