The Orioles and Royals took 15 innings to decide the first game of their series, with Baltimore winning in the top of the 15th on an Adam Jones solo home run after the O's scored two in the top of the ninth to take the game to extra innings and win 4-3.
Jonathan Broxton blew the opportunity with a two-run lead, first giving up a solo home run to Wilson Betemit, which cut the lead to 3-2. Chris Davis followed will get on base next with a single single, and pinch runner Ryan Flaherty came around to score from second on a J.J. Hardy single that tied the game at 3-3.
The blown save was Broxton's second of the year (he'd previously recorded seven saves in a row), and erased a strong night by starter Felipe Paulino, who threw seven scoreless innings and struck out nine batters.
