The Oakland Athletics offense rebounded from being shutout in the open game series against the Kansas City Royals to winning 9-3. The nine runs on Saturday afternoon surpassed the A's total from the previous six games combined.
The A's offensive outburst came in the top of the fifth inning when they scored four runs, and it started when Josh Reddick hit a two-RBI triple and then Yoenis Cespedes knocked in Reddick. At that point Royals starting pitcher Luke Hochevar was replaced by Tim Collins. Collins inherited Cespedes who was on first base, but he then allowed an RBI double to Kila Ka'aihue to give the A's a 6-1 lead after five innings.
The Royals did sore a run in the sixth and seventh inning to make it a 6-3 lead, but in the top of the eighth the A's responded by scoring three runs to put the game away at 9-3.
