Royals Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Kansas City's Poor Pitching Leads To 11-4 Loss

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Vin Mazzaro had a tough outing against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday night while lasting only 1.2 innings, and in that time Mazzaro gave up six hits and allowed seven runs. Roman Colon came into relief for Mazzaro but he did not fare much better as he allowed four runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings.

After the second inning, the Royals dug themselves into a 10-0 hole and could not recover from that type of deficit. The Cardinals were led by former Royals outfielder Carlos Beltran who had all of his offense in the first two innings with a pair of doubles and four RBI; Beltran was making his first appearance in Kansas City since he was traded back in 2004.

This was just one of those games were nothing went right for the Royals, and Mazzaro's start was the polar opposite compared to his last start against the Cardinals where pitched six shutout innings.

The one positive that the Royals can take from this game is the return of catcher Salvador Perez, who had been on the disabled list since spring training with a torn knee ligament. Perez went 2 for 4 with a monster two-run homer in the fourth inning.
