Prince Fielder's lastest home run derby trophy and the ire of hometown Kansas City fans towards A.L. team captain Robinson Cano was strong enough to push Tuesday night's... "exhibition" (of batting practice, we suppose) to better overall ratings than 2011, according to ESPN:
ESPN Home Run Derby delivers 6.88 million viewers (4.8 rtng), viewership up 3% from 2011. Top 5 markets: KC, Pitt, Det, St. Lou, NY

What's notable here is that despite decades of irrelevance in the sport, Kansas City baseball fans have shown great enhtusiasm for the All-Star Week of events, both in attendance and at home on the TV. Most impressive of all is that K.C. led all markets, despite Cano denying the world a Billy Butler "dinger" or ten, making children across Missouri and Kansas cry themselves to sleep.
