Royals Extend Player Development Contract With Wilmington Blue Rocks

The Wilmington Blue Rocks have served as the Advanced-A organization for the Kansas City Royals for the majority of the last 20 years since 1993, save for a two year period from 2005-06. That agreement will now continue through the 2014 season with a new player develop contract extension announced this week.

"We are very excited to continue our relationship with the Wilmington Blue Rocks an additional two years," said Scott Sharp, Royals Director of Minor League Operations. "We have been partners with the Blue Rocks for all but two years of their existence and take great pride in this. The ownership group, management team and the community are great supporters of the Kansas City Royals and our minor league players. The facility and city are second to none in minor league baseball."

Numerous Royals have come through Wilmington in the last 20 years, and the team just promoted Futures Game pitcher Yordano Ventura from its roster to AA this week.
