MLB Trade Rumors: Royals Could Land Matt Garza From Cubs

The report coming out of Kansas City is that the Royals are potentially looking at being a buyer in the trade market this July since the team has depth of prospects to trade and need an arm for the front of the rotation. As long as the player isn't a current half-season rental, it's possible that the team could be in on him. Matt Garza is the name that's out there now as a current possibility, but it wouldn't surprise to see the team in on others like Ricky Nolasco of the Marlins.

That said, Garza is the prize right now and he will be moved by Chicago at some point before the MLB trade deadline if the current rumors are true. Why the Royals? Matthew Leach of MLB.com gives some insight.

"Kansas City could bring in a hurler to provide some desperately needed innings this season, but also to bolster the team's rotation in 2013," said Leach. "The hope is that next year, improved health and continued development by some of the Royals' bumper crop of youngsters will add up to a very real run at a playoff spot. And if any team has prospects to deal, it's the Royals."
