Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen will be replacing Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton in the home run derby for the National League. Stanton is going to have arthroscopic knee surgery to repair loose bodies in his knee Sunday morning, and he is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks.
For the 22-year-old Stanton it was to be his first All-Star appearance of his career, and he was the only All-Star for his Marlins team. Prior to the injury Stanton was hitting .282 with a .915 OPS, 19 home runs and 50 RBI.
McCutchen was replaced by N.L. home run derby team captain Matt Kemp, and to round out the rest of the derby field will be outfielders Carlos Beltran and Carlos Gonzalez.
