Jeff Francoeur's Future With Royals Uncertain

Kansas City Royals right fielder Jeff Francoeur is uncertain about his future with the ballclub, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.

The Royals have top prospect Wil Meyers ready to make the jump next season and Francoeur could be the odd man out, especially as his numbers have been disappointing for the better part of this season. Francoeur has just 11 home runs and 34 RBIs and his hitting .240 with a .659 OPS through 115 games in 2012; the right fielder put up 20 home runs and 87 RBIs in 2011, hitting .285 with a .805 OPS.

"I don't know what direction they're headed or what they're planning," he admitted. "The way I look at it is I'm under contract for next year. So whether it's here or somewhere else, I plan on being ready to go.

"It all depends on what they want to do. I do know they know they've got to get some starting pitching. Whether that involves (trading) me or not, I don't know. But it's probably going to involve some guys in here."

Francoeur is due $6.75 million next season and could certainly be an asset in an off-season trade although the team would have to receive a significant return to justify such a move -- especially considering that Meyers has yet to prove himself above the Triple-A level.
