Royals Vs. Red Sox: Kansas City Tries To Take Advantage Of Distractions In Boston

The Kansas City Royals (55-69) continue their three-game weekend series against the Boston Red Sox (60-66) on Saturday night at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox snapped a four-game losing streak with a win in the series opener, as third baseman Pedro Ciriaco came up with the two-run double in the seventh inning to give Boston the lead for good. The Sox continue playing through internal turmoil with a reported deal nearly complete that will send first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, pitcher Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and infielder Nick Punto to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Beckett (5-11, 5.23 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for Boston unless the team completes the deal with the Dodgers.

Kansas City expects to start right-hander Jeremy Guthrie (5-12, 5.41 ERA), who hopes to build on three consecutive strong starts. In those starts, Guthrie was 2-0 having pitched 22 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run.

The game is scheduled to start at 6:10 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox Sports Kansas City.
