Jeremy Guthrie A Solid Fantasy Play Down The Stretch

Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie heads a list of players, from Marc Normandin over at Fake Teams, who are trending upward in terms of percentage-owned in fantasy leagues.

Guthrie has been extremely solid for the Royals since coming over from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Jonathan Sanchez. Guthrie has posted a 3.23 ERA in 39 innings with KC, and perhaps more impressively, possesses a K/BB ratio of nearly 4 to 1. Some of his numbers are luck-driven, considering the fact that he's allowing a BABIP of just .255, but the fact that he has regained his pre-Coors Field level of command hints that he will be able to sustain at least a moderate level of success going forward.

Guthrie struggled mightily in Colorado, particularly early in the year, posting a 6.35 ERA in 90.2 innings. His K/BB ratio was under 1.5, and he allowed 21 home runs in only 19 appearances. This came after a solid stretch in Baltimore, in which he was the very definition of a serviceable pitcher; in almost 1,000 innings across five seasons, he put up a very respectable 4.12 ERA.
