With three wins this month, August has been one long highlight for Royals pitcher Luis Mendoza. He'll look to keep the month a good one when he takes the mound Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers.
However, following back-to-back losses to the Boston Red Sox, the Royals just hope to play spoilers while the Tigers are in the thick of both the AL Central race and the wild card race. Following back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Angels, the Tigers will start a three-game series against the Royals with ace Justin Verlander on the mound.
Verlander has thrown more than 100 pitches in every game he has appeared in during the 2012 season and boasts a 12-7 record with a 2.50 ERA, the AL's second-best mark.
The first pitch at Kauffman Stadium is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox Sports Detroit.
