The Kansas City Royals are looking for a three-game sweep against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. They began the series with a wild 9-8 win on Tuesday, then squeaked by the Tigers 1-0 on the strength of eight dominant innings from Bruce Chen on Wednesday.
Jeremy Guthrie will take the mound for the Royals. He had gone 22.2 innings without giving up a run until the sixth inning of his last start, Aug. 25 against Boston. He gave up four runs and eight hits in three innings the last time he faced Detroit, on June 17 as a member of the Rockies.
Rick Porcello will be pitching the Tigers, trying to avoid the sweep.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT at Kauffman Stadium. It can be seen on Fox Sports Kansas City.
