Ned Yost Compliments Will Smith Even After Rangers Loss

No matter how the final score turned out, Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost always has a positive word for his young team. That continued on Saturday night after losing another game to the Texas Rangers 4-2 as Will Smith lost another decision.

"I thought he threw the ball pretty darn good," manager Ned Yost said. "He competed well and did a really nice job keeping pitches down and changing speeds against a really tough lineup. Each time out he's getting better."

Smith threw nearly six innings and allowed four earned runs and eight hits to go with three walks and two strikeouts.

"He got a pitch up to [Josh] Hamilton that he kind of dropped into left field but, for the most part, I thought he competed well. I thought he did a really nice job of keeping his pitches down and changing speeds against a tough lineup."

Smith is now 2-4 for the Royals with a 6.00 ERA in 7 starts.
