Kansas City police are investigating an apparent attempted murder-suicide in the parking lot of Kauffman Stadium on Friday afternoon, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.

Police said the victim, a black female in her 40s, worked as a parking attendant at the stadium. She was approached by a man with a gun who is believed to be her boyfriend or former boyfriend. The gunman, a black male in his 40s, shot the victim once in the abdomen and returned to his car, where he shot and killed himself. The woman is reported to be in critical condition and undergoing surgery at a local hospital.

The incident was reported at 3:23 p.m. in Lot A, and while the parking lot closed temporarily, it has since been reopened.

Tonight's game between the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels is scheduled to proceed as planned, with the first pitch slated for 7:10 p.m. CT.
