The Kansas City Royals kick off a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium tonight, with a chance to play spoiler as the Halos try to back into an A.L. Wild Card spot.
The Royals will have to do it without center fielder Lorenzo Cain, who might miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a grade-2 strain in his right hamstring. Jason Bourgeois and David Lough will likely platoon in center field in Cain's absence, with Bourgeois getting the start on Friday night.
The Royals will send lefty Bruce Chen (10-12, 4.36) to the mound to try to cool off an Angels offense that dropped seven run on the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.
The Angels will counter with a lefty of their own, C.J. Wilson (12-9, 3.69). Wilson, who struggled after the All-Star break, has bounced back of late, winning each of his last four starts.
