The Kansas City Royals lost the lead to a 3-run eighth inning by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and were unable to recover, losing 9-7.
The Royals led most of the offense-filled game, and entered the eighth inning up 7-5. Angels designated hitter Kendrys Morales hit a two run homer to tie the game. Torii Hunter drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Mike Trout, bringing the score to 8-7, a lead the Angels wouldn't surrender. A Kole Calhoun RBI drove in Vernon Wells in the ninth to bring the game to the final score of 9-7.
The Royals were without center fielder Lorenzo Cain, who could miss the remainder of the season with a grade-2 strain in his right hamstring. Jason Bourgeois started in Cain's place, going 2-3 on the night, with one run and one RBI. Bourgeois is expected to platoon in center with David Lough while Cain is out.
