Alex Gordon Nominated For Roberto Clemente Award

Left fielder Alex Gordon was announced on Tuesday as the Kansas City Royals' nominee for the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award. The award goes to the player who best represents the game of baseball, through on field sportsmanship, as well as off the field contributions and community involvement. Each team has a nominee.

Gordon and his wife Jamie are vocal supporters of efforts to fight childhood cancer. They have contributed to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a childhood cancer foundation named for a young girl and cancer patient who helped raise money for her hospital by setting up a lemonade stand. The Gordons also support the Diamond Dawgs, a local 12-and-under team that wears pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness.

Voting for the Clemente award ends on Oct. 14. You can cast your ballot for Gordon, or anyone else, here.
