MRI results have revealed that Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has a slight tear in his right rotator cuff. However, he will not need to undergo surgery, according to MLB.com's Dick Kaegel.
Hosmer suffered the injury on Thursday in Detroit while making a diving attempt at a ball hit down the first-base line in the second inning. He left the game an inning later.
Hosmer missed the entire three-game series against the Cleveland Indians, and said he isn't sure whether or not he'll play in the Royals' season-ending series against the Detroit Tigers:
"I don't know, to be honest with you, I think we're going to know about it when we get back to Kansas City and do the re-evaluation, but it's all up in the air right now."
In his second MLB season, Hosmer has struggled, posting a .232/.304/.359 line with 14 homers in just under 600 plate appearances. Last year, in his rookie season, Hosmer hit 19 homers and put up a .293/.334/.465 batting line.
