Desperate to turn their sinking season around with a marquee win, the Kansas Jayhawks will stay at home to face the Texas Longhorns on Saturday afternoon from Memorial Stadium.
Kansas coach Charlie Weis will once again allow freshman quarterback Michael Cummings to begin the weekend under center, despite the youngster's largely erratic performance in a 52-7 loss to Oklahoma last Saturday. The 5'10 Cummings tossed a pair of interceptions and could only muster 21 yards rushing on 12 carries in the defeat, but still clearly offers more versatility than inconsistent senior Dayne Crist.
Aside from being one of the worst scoring teams in college football at just 17.7 points per game, the Jayhawks may still be afforded plenty of chances to pull off big plays this Saturday against a lackluster Texas defense that continues to struggle. After allowing West Virgina to tally 48 points the week before giving up 63 to Oklahoma, the Longhorns still managed to serve up a whopping 50 points to Baylor in Week 8 despite a narrow win.
