The Kansas Jayhawks may not be playing so well on the field in 2012, but their academic prowess, when measured by number of players registering B averages or higher, leads the Big 12 this season. Of the 131 players named to the Academic All-Big 12 football team, 19 were Jayhawks; that is the highest total of any school in the conference.
Kansas senior safety Brandon Hawks was one of three players on the Big 12 all-academic team to compile a 4.00 grade point average. Senior offensive lineman Trevor Marrongelli became a three-time first-team honoree. A total of 82 players were named to the Big 12 first team, which requires a 3.20 GPA; second team players must have a 3.00 GPA or higher.
Kansas (1-9, 0-7 Big 12) hosts Iowa State this Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The Jayhawks finish their 2012 season on Dec. 1 against West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va.
