2011 Maui Invitational: Kansas, Duke, Six Others Are Invited

Kansas basketball is ranked preseason No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 25 on Dick Vitale's top 40. Freshman guard Josh Selby is the Big 12 preseason freshman of the year and forward Marcus Morris is on the preseason All-Big 12 team.

They'll get a shot to showcase their team early in 2011.

Via a press release, the 2011 Maui Invitational will include: Duke, Kansas, UCLA, Michigan, Georgetown, Tennessee, Chaminade and Memphis.

The Maui Invitational has added four teams to the field this year.

In addition to the 12 games played at the Lahaina Civic Center from Nov. 21-23, there will be 11 games played on the U.S. mainland, the first expansion for the Maui Invitational since it went from four to eight teams in 1986.

The action kicks off on Nov. 11-17 with the mainland games. Chaminade is the Div. II host school.

Here's the break down of how the games will go:

The opening games will be played at the seven Maui-bound schools with three of the four mainland teams playing two games and the other playing one.

The four mainland teams will play two doubleheaders at one of those schools on Nov. 19-20.

The championship round will remain the same at the Lahaina Civic Center with all 12 games shown on one of the ESPN networks.

The 2010 teams include: Kentucky, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Wichita State, Michigan State, Virginia, Washington and Chaminade.
