Texas A&M vs. Kansas: Desperate Measures For Both Teams

Here's what people are saying about the Texas A&M vs. Kansas game.

Texas A&M Vs. Kansas: Game Preview - I Am The 12th Man
On paper, A&M should destroy this Kansas team, a squad ranked last in the conference in scoring offense (7 ppg), scoring defense (57 ppg), rushing defense (265 ypg), total offense (300.5 ypg), and total defense (574 ypg). Games aren't played on paper, however. I'm not even sure how much to preview about this Kansas team. Their offense is horrible, led by QB Jordan Webb, who averages 199.5 yards passing per game in conference, and 4 yds rushing per game.

Think A&M's matchup with 2-4 Kansas doesn't matter? Think again
So it all begs the question: which team will be the most resilient and end up with the victory? Will it be the Aggies, the ones plagued by turnovers and penalties, with the struggling senior quarterback, very young offensive line and a secondary desperate to stop the pass? Or will it be the Jayhawks, the turnover-prone, oft-penalized group led by a freshman quarterback and running back with a defense that has been inept at stopping the run?

"You keep playing," Gill said. "Keep playing, keep being competitive, keep having confidence in what you’re doing. Stay within the framework of what your coaches are teaching you and what your reads are." Webb admitted Tuesday he has had moments this season when he has gotten out of the system. In each instance, he said it was just him trying too hard to make something happen. He also said he needed to do a better job of keeping that in check and doing what the coaches ask.

This is what it’s like to be a desperate football team halfway through a season that’s quickly slipping away: "It’d be like studying and thinking you were going to make 100 on a final exam, then all of a sudden you make a 40," Kansas defensive coordinator Carl Torbush said. "You’re not gonna be real happy with it. That’s kind of what has happened the last two weeks."

A season that began with hopes of a Big 12 South title or at least a climb into the AP Top 25 has unraveled quickly, with the latest example a 30-9 home loss to Missouri. A trip to Lawrence might not be a bad thing, given the mood in College Station. "The frustration I'm sure is very intense, and that's part of it," Sherman said. "I want to coach at a place where people expect you to win. I wouldn't want it any other way. ... "I feel that disappointment when I walk off that field. And our players feel that."

Gill, despite being only six games into his Jayhawks tenure, is feeling the heat after Kansas (2-4, 0-2) lost its past two games to Baylor and Kansas State by a combined 100 points. Meanwhile the heat is on A&M third-year coach Mike Sherman almost full blast after the Aggies (3-3, 0-2) dropped their past three games, including a 30-9 loss to Missouri a week ago at Kyle Field, in a season in which they were expected to contend for the South title.
