Wow. Just wow. The Kansas Jayhawks staged an incredible fourth quarter comeback to beat the Colorado Buffaloes 52-42 on Saturday in Lawrence. What was viewed as the worst Big 12 matchup of the weekend may end up being the most entertaining.
The Jayhawks were down 45-17 at the beginning of the fourth quarter and rattled off five unanswered touchdowns to top the Buffaloes. KU scored at the 11:05, 9:26, 7:12, 4:30, and 0:52 mark in the fourth quarter.
RB James Sims racked up a whopping four touchdowns on top of his 123 rushing yards. QB Quinn Mecham completed 23-of-28 passes for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns (and two picks). Mecham was a big part of their success today. Kansas may be entering another quarterback controversy.
Kansas's defense went from giving up 45 points in the in a little over three quarters to shutting down Colorado even creating a touchdown themselves.
I wrote this week that even though the Jayhawks are losing, some of the players are defending Gill and truly believing in what he's doing. That's still very important if you're a losing team, like KU is this season. That's what helps them in a comeback like this.
Incredible game for Kansas.
