Kansas Jayhawks Top Memphis Tigers, 81-68, Behind Markieff And Marcus Morris

The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Memphis Tigers at the Jimmy V Classic moving them to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 away from Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas held just a two point lead at halftime but surged ahead in the second half despite 21 turnovers in the game.

Kansas got 30 points and 14 rebounds from Markieff and Marcus Morris, who combined for 14-of-22 shooting. Markieff got into a bit of foul trouble but he was solid for the night. Tyshawn Taylor added 13 points coming out at one point for some cramps.

Kansas looked strong in a 13-point victory but they had a lot of turnovers which will be part of the focus despite the victory. On the positive side Kansas continued their superb efficiency hitting on 57.1 percent of their shots and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc. Elijah Johnson was 3-of-3 including 1-of-1 from three point land after some wacky rumors came out that he was transferring.

Memphis' Will Barton added 16 points while Charles Carmouche ended with 12 points. Chris Crawford came off the bench with 15 points. Memphis shot 37.5 percent on the night.

Kansas didn't play their best game and still walked away with a 13-point victory so I think you have to feel good about KU basketball at this point in the year.

And they're still one more game away from getting Josh Selby into the lineup.
