KSTP 5 in Minneapolis reported this week that former KU football coach Mark Mangino had been hired by the University of Minnesota as a consultant to head coach Tim Brewster. Other outlets had reported seeing Mangino on the sidelines of Minnesota's game last weekend.
All false, according to Minnesota's AD, Joel Maturi.
"No, he's not," Maturi told the Pioneer Press on Wednesday about Mangino being hired by the Gophers. "He just came in as a friend to Coach Brewster."
It sounds like KSTP 5 saw Mangino on their sidelines and tried to connect some dots. Mangino and Brewster are friends and own condos in the same Naples, Fla., neighborhood. Last December, after Mangino had been out at Kansas, there were heavy rumors that Brewster was a candidate for the KU head coaching job.
