Jeff Withey Triple Double Leads Kansas Over Pittsburg State 84-55

Jeff Withey recorded a triple double and No. 13 Kansas scored a deceiving 84-55 exhibition victory over Pittsburg State. Withey finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks as the Jayhawks overcame suspension and injury in their unofficial start to the season.

Jayhawks were without leading scorer and Tyshawn Taylor and Elijah Johnson who were both suspended due to a violation of team rules over the summer. Thomas Robinson missed the game with a knee injury. Not to mention that Kansas is without two key members of its recruiting class when Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor were both deemed ineligible by the NCAA.

All of that couldn't help Pittsburg State score the upset. Conner Teahan hit three of his five three-pointers to open the game for the Jayhawks who were unable to open up the lead until the second half. Kansas turned the ball over 15 times in the first half on their way to 23 on the night. They were also only 19 of 37 from the free throw line as they gave Pitt State every opportunity to hang around in the game.

Teahan led all scorers with 21 points and was followed by Withey's 18. Travis Releford finished with 14 points while Naadir tharpe added 12 points but committed nine turnovers in the game.
