The rumors have been swirling for weeks (or even months) at this point that Kansas Jayhawks head football coach Turner Gill is bound to get fired for the Jayhawks' inability to win much of anything during his tenure. That day might be coming today with the latest rumor coming from Gabe DeArmond who says that today is, indeed, D-Day for Gill. In fact, DeArmond says there are several coaches getting canned soon enough.
As a head coach, you are defined by your record and Turner Gill has a poor record at best. He's 5-18 in his two seasons at KU with only one Big 12 win in that entire time. That's simply unacceptable for the fan base, boosters and athletic department. For the second year in a row, the Jayhawks are (easily) the worst football team in the Big 12 and the team's defense this year was among the worst in all of college football.
At one point, Gill was a hot coaching candidate out of Buffalo, but even that was an odd hire, as Gill only went 20-30 in four seasons there with only one winning season at all -- an 8-6 record in 2008.
