The coaching carousel is on the move with Ron Zook out at Illinois and the rumors running rampant that Rick Neuheisel is out at UCLA, it's only a matter of time before those slots start to be filled. It's a yearly game of musical chairs that recycles a lot of names and sometimes it works while others it doesn't. The Kansas Jayhawks are likely going to be one of those teams with a coaching opening given Turner Gill's inability to win much of anything in his first two seasons at KU. That begs the question: who could take over if Gill is fired?
Some of the names you're hearing now in terms of available coaches will likely come up to some degree. If we're to be honest, the Kansas Jayhawks aren't exactly in a prime position to hire the most elite available candidates. While it doesn't seem sexy to want someone else's trash, Neuheisel has a strong coaching resume overall and could do something special with the Jayhawks.
Chris Foster reports for the L.A. Times that, " A person with knowledge of the situation said UCLA would have to win the Pac-12 title in order for the coach to have any chance of retaining his job. And that was before the Bruins' lopsided loss to USC."
Overall he's 86-57 as a head coach and Neuheisel also has experience in the NFL as an offensive assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
